I have been flying my Lancair 320 since Oct. 94 and my experience with
cockpit heating and ventilation is as follows:

I have only the factory recommended heat muff and have found that cabin heat
is adequate.  I live in Missouri but have taken trips to Colorado and
Minnesota in the winter time.  The OAT on these flights was running -10F
to -20F.

The cabin ventilation in the summer time is inadequate, especially on the
ground while taxiing out for take-off. The solar heat makes the canopy like
a hot house.   I have the old style, swing canopy which cannot be left to
flop around, partially open while taxing.  I fashioned a couple of spacers
to keep the canopy in the open position (about 3 inches) while taxing.  They
work OK but it takes about a minute to put them on or off.  They have to be
removed to latch the canopy prior to take-off.  Also, on a humid day when
the OAT is around 30 to 40 degrees F there is serious problem with the
canopy fogging up on the inside prior to take-off.  I installed a canopy
vent duct on the dust cover and small 12V blower which partially solves the
problem but on some days, even that is not enough.  I think I need a larger
blower.
