If both batteries are good I would thoroughly check
the regulator wiring. Be sure it's wired as specified by B&C.
Some people try to simplify the installation and connect terminal 3 directly to
terminal 6 of the regulator instead of running a separate wire from terminal 3
to the bus as shown in the B&C wiring diagram. (See link below.)
The folks at B&C told me this isn't a good idea and can sometimes cause
the field breaker to trip. They said the problem is some of the switches
used for the alternator field switch, especially the split master rocker type,
are less than ideal and can cause voltage noise or fluctuations at the
output of the switch. If terminal 3 is connected to the output of the
switch (i.e. terminal 6) this can interfere with the bus voltage sense function,
resulting in popped breakers.
