This, in fact, seemed contrary to my preconceptions and to the diagrams/sketches in the builder's manual. After a somewhat frantic call (one in a series of many for this novice) to a Lancair tech rep, I was reassured that this was indeed correct and actually an upgrade to the design. This improvement apparently facilitates better "attachment" of the airstream/slipstream to elevator (less separation).
