About 2 years ago, it was suggested and Lancair instituted a change that the
aileron crossover tube run under the side torque tubes vs over them.  Thus
the ears pointing down on the side torque tubes.  This way, there is more
space for avionics, switches and such on the back side of your panel.  The
crossover tube is still hidden nicely behind the lower edge of the panel.

You do need to adjust the position of the side torque tubes to avoid the
nose wheel housing just as Bob mentions and your autopilot roll servo will
have a different orientation in relation to the tube.

It's not unusual for the manual to lag behind or sometimes overlook
improvements or other changes to the design.  It actually sounds as if it
might be getting better - I seem to recall several head scratchers long
before I got to this step.

Be sure to visualize as best you can the implications of the steps you take
even when following the manual.  Most of us have probably had to redo at
least a few steps for not realizing the effect one part may have on another.
Bob, you might consider calling Steve Lorentzen's attention to the
discrepancy - perhaps it'll be corrected in the manual.
