| To the Group: I've been flying my legacy for about 2 years. I wish I could say that I am the builder, but I can't. I had a builder with a good reputation build the plane and have been happy with his overall workmanship for the period time.
I thought I would share with you the root cause that was finally uncovered which was causing a multitude of problems. Cutting it short and sweet. I have had problems with the autopilot holding:
- the altitude set point
- tracking the glide slope on a Garmin 430W
- tracking the glide slope on a Chelton. (On some cases the plane would pitch straight down into the ground)
I have a TruTrak VSGV II with Autotrim. In tracking down the problem every wire was rung out, every TruTrak component was removed on different occasions and sent back to TruTrak to inspect (all were checked out individually and returned at no charge--as an aside TruTrak has always been professional and helpful).
Finally I pulled everything out (the VSGV II unit, the autotrim unit and the vertical servo unit) and sent it to TruTrak. On this last go around, they determined that the vertical servo was never set up correctly and was out of calibration. Apparently there is a spring inside the gear box of the vertical servo. If it is set up incorrectly then there will be oscillations.
