Some background: My pump is one of the original units delivered with the kit in 1986 and has performed fine until just recently. A couple of days back, upon retraction, the pump began cycling every 3 seconds or so. I did an emergency drop, retracted again and it cycled about 5 times and then stopped. The same thing occurred again after my next stop. Yesterday and today, the pump just kept on running - so I had to pull the breaker to keep it from burning itself up. The dump valve is a new 5000 psi unit (new as of about 100 hours ago). The pressure switches are the original types that came with the kit back then. After the first occurrence, I called Vern and related my problem, and asked him to send me a new hi pressure switch (thinking that was likely my problem as they have caused trouble in the past). Vern's first question was whether I had ever had my pump back to the manufacturer to have the bypass valve (I think he said) replaced. Of course, as I've had no problems up to now, my answer was "no". He opined that since the pump stopped cycling, as I've related, that it just might be the switch. Of course, since talking to Vern, it has now stopped cycling and just keeps running (note above). The question is, have I missed a SB from the factory on this? Has anyone else had to send their pump to be retrofitted and if so, what can you tell me about the service? How quickly is it turned around and are you happy with the results? All info and insights very much appreciated, as this is going to keep my airplane AOG until resolved.
