You, Greyhawk and I are on the same page.  I installed tapered aluminum rub blocks to force the canopy out a "scoesh" to clear the longeron on closing.  They need Greyhawks teflon tape to reduce friction and save the paint.

I saw the same issue during construction.  I installed an aluminum tab that pushes the canopy apart just prior to engaging the longeron.  The tab is visible behind the canopy strut attach point in this photo
