Per Michael Eakman's comments on temperfoam:

I have about a 1 inch thick cushion (full seat and back) of the stiffest
material they make and, notwithstanding the derogatory comments by potential
passengers - "Geez! You're gonna make me sit on that concrete seat for HOW
many hours?" - within less than 5 minutes, the tune changes to "Geez! this
seat is REALLY comfortable!" This stuff truly beats any of the other seat
materials by a country mile (whatever that is if you live in the city).

I used the hardest composition available at the time. The different
stifnesses are color coded (or at least were when I bought mine) - mine is
light green. I wouldn't go much softer than the stiffest as you'd probably
bottom out eventually on anything softer.

One word of warning about handling: Be careful with the sheets of the
material while it's laying around prior to installation. After I cut mine to
shape to fit my seats, I carelessly laid them on a table and folded one back
on itself. The next day, upon returning to the shop, the folded one had
continued to collapse on itself under it's own weight and had split into two
pieces at the fold. It was easily glued back together with a household
cement and none the worse for wear - just the same, be careful and keep it
laying flat until installed.
