Bob Archer just e-mailed me and also said not to use the same antenna for both DME and Transponder.  By that, I mean one antenna shared by both units.  His recommendation was a second antenna placed as far as possible from the other.

As I have dry outer wing bays, I will look into Dan Schafer's recommended RST kit.  Bob Archer suggested a blade antenna with a 12 inch ground plane -- I think that's what Jim Frantz did.  In any event, I now know I need a second antenna.  Thanks, guys!
