Guy,

I moved my Legacy from Redmond, OR to San Jose, CA after the two-week builder assist program mounted on a Lancair rotisserie without engine), with the rotisserie clamped securely to a U-Haul car trailer with the airframe rolled at about 45 degrees to keep the total width at or below 8-feet wide.  You can buy a used rotisserie at a modest cost if you don't already have one.  I made a CAD layout drawing of the trailer, the rotisserie and designed the clamp parts, then made supporting 4 X 4 redwood beams, made and painted all of the metal clamp parts and bought several ratchet straps, square U-bolts and miscellaneous fasteners.  I towed the car trailer with a medium size U-Haul truck, and put the wings and the remaining kit parts, luggage etc. in the truck.  A big project to be sure, but easy to use and very secure at the speed limits and beyond.  I also added a red ribbon plus a bright bike battery powered lamp on the tail for use at night.

I would be willing to rent the entire kit for a reasonable fee plus shipping cost as scrap metal with no liability, as I would not be involved.  The Legacy with the outer wings removed will not fit diagonally through a large U-Haul truck doorway, or any other rental truck I could find.  I am not sure if a 320 or 360 will fit through a large size U-Haul truck doorway or not.  I have many digital photos if you are interested.

Note that U-Haul will not knowingly rent a car trailer for any purpose other than trailering a car, and will always ask what car model you are moving.  I told them a '62 Pontiac Bonneville, and everyone was happy.  No drilled holes, scratches or other damage to the trailer, and no damage to the Legacy.  We got a lot of interested gawkers on the road, and at gasoline station pit stops.  What a show going down the road.  It takes four men to lift the airplane with rotisserie onto or off of the trailer.

Subject: [LML] Transporting a 320/360???

Hello,

I need to transport a 320 that is all ready built via ground transportation. I need to move the plane 2000 miles, and I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on what to use? I was thinking of renting a Penskee truck, and try to put the plane on a car trailer, but not sure if this would work.
Any help, or tips would be of great help.

Thanks,
Guy
