If there's any play in the assembly Lancair uses aluminum shims to make a tight fit. On the fastbuild ESs, the strut is already fit to the engine mount when the kit is delivered. Mine came with one shim. Another issue I found was that the powder coat on the new strut extended slightly over the shoulder on the strut posts which might be susceptible to chipping away over time. So a tight fitting strut at initial installation could develop some play if the powder coat chipped away. I removed the powder coat from the shoulders of the posts and made sure my bearings were tightly seated against the shoulder on the posts. Then used shims to make a snug fit when I inserted the assembly between the plates on the engine mount. I had to gently tap the assembly into position. Without the spacers that hold the bearings fully seated into the bearing blocks, a bearing could slip on initial installation if the strut/bearing block assembly was a little too wide. With the spacers, that can't happen. My assembly wouldn't even fit in the engine mount without chipping off the power coat from the strut post shoulders.
