Hi Fred,

So sorry (but not surprised) to hear your continuing problem with Performance Engines. Your last post when you said that Ron had agreed to help fix the problem was encouraging to me. I thought that maybe enough pressure had been brought to change his business practices. But, alas, no.

After many months of unanswered phone calls and emails, hundreds of messages left on his answering machine and NO communication from Ron, I finally caught him in a careless moment and he actually picked up the phone. After having my exhaust system for SIX MONTHS he promised to return it to me "by the end of the week". That would have been May 29. That date came and went with no action from Performance. I managed to get in touch with him once again. He pretended to be interested and again promised to get my exhaust out by "Wednesday or Thursday". That was 2 weeks ago. I have been unable to reach him since then and he's back to not answering the phone.

I truly believe that Ron has a serious psychological problem. He seems to be a pathological liar, simply incapable of telling the truth. Frankly, I'd have more respect for him if he simply told me "F.U., I'm keeping your exhaust and you'll never get it back". At least then I'd have reason to believe him. It's now been SEVEN MONTHS since my faulty Performance Engines exhaust system was returned to him. Has anybody found a lawyer in LaVerne CA that would be interested in our cases?

Subject: [LML] Performance Engines (lack of) progress report

Recall the saga with Performance Engines who assembled my IO-550 with 10:1 forged pistons, but with insufficient piston-bore clearance.  The pistons rubbed giving rise to ring flutter and blow by confirmed by subsequent teardown.  I struck a deal with Ron Munson of Performance Engines.  I would cover the labor costs of teardown and assembly and he would provide replacement pistons (8.5:1 stock ECI cast units this time) and rings and cover the cost of refurbishing the ECI CermaNil cylinders which were scored too badly for repair by honing.

I shipped the pistons to ECI for refurbishment about a month ago.

About two weeks ago the pistons and rings arrived from Performance Engines.

About ten days ago ECI confirmed that the reconditioned cylinders were ready to ship.  I wrote (and subsequently re-wrote) Stuart and Ron at Performance Engines asking them to pay ECI, as agreed,  for the cylinder repair costs so they can be released and shipped to me.

The response has been the frequent Performance Engines reply – SILENCE.

So here we are again with a public airing of dirty Performance Engines laundry – they made a promise of warranty support, but when the time comes to complete the deal – SILENCE.

So Stuart, Ron – how do you propose to handle this?
