Dom,
If you’re “eating”
the Odyssey batteries at the rate your message suggests, consider checking the
regulator and specifically the charging voltage. Get the spec sheet on your
particular battery for the voltage requirements, and don’t fudge on the
voltage…a bit extra is definitely not a good thing here.
Also, if you are using an
external charger, it MUST be one designed for these type batteries. A “standard”
charger, even a “trickle charger” will cook them in short order.
I’m planning to change out
my Odessys on a 4-year cycle (one set of two every two years in my dual 24v
system) but only because I have an all-electric airplane…and electrical power
is pretty critical to the kind of flying I do. I now have a set of Odessys that
are three years old; due for change out next annual, and one set that’s a
year old; due for change out in 2012. Either set reliably cranks my TSIO-550
without a hitch…ever.

I
got 9 years out of my original one. It was still going strong when I
changed it as preventative maintenance.
Been using an Odyssey 680 PC
battery for the last nearly six years. I am now on my fourth unit. Anyone else
using these products and what life do you get?
Cheers
