Re: [LML] Slick Mags inspection -- Slick Service Bulletin SB3-08
You guys probably know about this service bulletin, but I didn’t, and my slicks wore out in a little over a hundred hours. I replaced them with Bendix.
The worn out Slicks had advanced the timing such that a pre-det was possible.
Models Affected are Engines equipped with Slick 4300/6300 magnetos and Lasar 4700/6700 Magnetos.
If your engine is within the original full coverage warranty period as stated in your written warranty, contact TCM Technical Services at 1 888 826-5465, option 2.
Unison/Slick’s Joe Logan at 904 772-1909 was also helpful.
This service bulletin has to do with the Slick carbon brushes wearing out prematurely. Talk to a mechanic that you trust. Some will tell you to jettison the Slicks and go with Bendix. Others will tell you just to replace the brushes that may wear out in another hundred hours.
My personal recommendation is that if you don’t fly your plane much, stick with slick. Save the money. If you want to put some hours on your bird, you may want to check out Bendix.
Disclaimer: Other than computer hacking skills and numb chuck skills, I have no skills. I pay a higher hourly rate for my plumber than for my attorney.
So please check with a qualified plumber before you take any action on any of the above. You may also want to ask your mechanic. Because “only her hair dresser knows for sure....”

What does anyone reckon the cost of a 500 hour Slick Mag inspection might be?
