By the way, Angier, FWIW, I forgot to mention in my earlier post on the
subject, there are at least two methods to minimize the problem of the
Phillips head slots from camming out. One I learned from a mechanic who
probably worked on the Wright Flyer (at least he looked like it!) - dip just
the very the tip of the Phillips screwdriver in some fine metal grinding
compound just before you use it, the grit will really help the flutes grab
the screw rather than slip and round out the slots. Second, look around your
friendly hardware store for the replaceable tips with minute serrations
built into the flats right down at the tip. I've used both methods with good
results, but the "grabber" tip is less messy.
