strake for his Lancair IV-P.
Ralf,
I just got my IV-P flying this summer and have about 120 hours on it now. I’ve
found the directional stability and rudder authority to be very good with the
existing fin/rudder, and (IF YOU ARE INSTALLING A PISTON ENGINE) would recommend
against these for a couple of reasons: These add weight in the rear, and you
will likely have a tail-heavy airplane that effectively limits your max gross
weight to stay within the CG limit. Second, the tie down built into this
assembly can’t possibly be as strong/well tied into the fuselage as the
Lancair-specified one.
If you are building a turbine-powered airplane, the situation
may be very different. Some of the turbine builders will likely comment on
this?
