What problem does this solve?

I have been surprised how stable my LIV (non pressurized, piston engine) is in choppy air, a lot better than the Bonanza’s I have flown.  I have plenty of rudder authority except during early take off on dirt, but then I do not use full throttle at that point.  No problems on hard runways.   Mash the knob and hold on to the centreline.

And more pounds way back there seems like a poor addition to the airframe if the benefit is marginal.

For turbines with lots of horsepower and long cowls, more stability is needed.  For the rest of us, why bother?

Or maybe my inner ear does not work that well any more so I no longer notice. J
