Rob, FWIW.

Speaking from the vantage of 40+ years in the aerospace avionics industry, I strongly recommend that you insist on the use of MIL -STD "Tefzel" insulated wire for your airplane, whoever does the wiring. The cost is incrementally higher than Teflon or the even less appropriate automobile insulated wire but the benefits far outweigh the moderate cost increase. Tefzel is available in standard white and colors, shielded and non-shielded, is temperature rated to 150 C, 600 volts and comes in all the gauges needed for wiring a Lancair (with the possible exception of the starter cables - where, for instance, I used #4 flexible copper welding cable as it's insulation jacket is designed for a lot of abuse).

Tefzel insulation is far more immune to cold-flow than other insulations, including Teflon. This is important in wire bundles that are tightly tied with Tie-wraps for long periods, or inadvertently pulled tightly around a sharp edge.

If memory serves, the MIL designation for Tefzel wire is:

Non shielded:     MIL-W-22759/16
Shielded:            MIL-C-27500
