To put it in a different way from recent postings, I transfer one wing at a
time to the header tank. The transfer rate is .45 gal. per. hour throught
the facet pump so I move 5 gallons to the header tank every 11 minutes.
Keeping the header fuel at about 7 or 8 gallons, I will transfer 5 minutes from
one wing, then 6 minutes from the other wing to keep the header fuel at my
desired level. I keep a log, recording the minutes of transfer from each
wing.
In a recent posting, a Lancair flyer confessed to forgetting to
transfer and running the header tank out of fuel, resulting in engine
failure. The pilot was listening to music on a CD.
It seems to me that safe operation of the airplane doesn't leave room for
zoning out with a music CD when the PIC's attention should be on minding
the store.
