I have a "test" strip of standard carbon fiber thicknesses that I use for measuring.  It was set up as a regular layup as we were taught at the builder's assist:  fabric with squeegeed resin, sandwiched in 1 mil plastic, rolled over with ink brayer, plastic sheet removed and cured between peal ply layers with some weight on the flat sandwich.

1 bid = .014
2 bid = .024
3 bid = .034
4 bid = .045
5 bid = .053
6 bid = .066

Best fit by least squares: Thickness = 0.010 X (# of bids) + 0.003

Your results may vary.

I've searched the archives but couldn't find any reference to a typical thickness of 1 bid.  I'm trying to verify some flap pads I made about 2 years ago to see if they are correct.  Does .01" or .23mm sound close (I used duct tape)?

Thanks
Doug
