Guys,

I’ve been contemplating having the ability to communicate with a base camp in excess of 500 miles from the plane.  What are possible or “best” recommendations to communicate voice or data?  Data need not be absolutely real time (email delay 5-10 minutes would be fine).

APRS -  good but don’t know if the data can be received on the plane?  I’ve only heard it described as air to ground GPS data (not back).

Don’t know if new Broadband wifi works in flight? Maybe FL200?

Sat Phone?  Anyone have any experience renting/ buying/ stealing such a toy?

HF -  I had the impression I’d need to string a long antenna which would be speed defeating?  Are there small internal HF antennae?

Which tree should I bark up considering general budgetary limits and very minimal use (like for a week)?

Thanks,

Larry Henney
