I flew from Anchorage, AK to Redmond, OR on Friday afternoon.  The Sigmet was for moderate icing from the freezing level to 19K for most of Washington and Oregon. At FL210, I was above almost everything, but the jets going into Seattle were holding near Olympia and reporting moderate icing at 12000 to 14000, so I would say that 13000 was the worst place to be.

When I got to Redmond at 6:30 pm, it was mostly clear, but when I took off from Alaska, I was planning to stay high for as long as possible and then descend as quickly as possible between 19000, which was the top of the forecast icing to 8000, which was supposed to be below the clouds.

My deepest condolences to the families. According to news accounts it was raining at the surface in the area at the time. If he was at 13,000 feet I would assume he was above the freezing level.

According to local news reports an ES went down Friday morning in Oregon between Salem and Albany (about 60 miles south of Portland).  The reports indicate there were three people on board; no survivors.  Those on board have been identified as owner/pilot Louis Jay Lamb, Steven Teeney, and Riley Bunn.  Based on pictures of the aircraft it appears to be N329BW.  One report stated there was a radar return at 13,000 ft then the aircraft crashed a few minutes later.
