I have that alt/vr combo on my plane, and it draws about 2 amps normally. That will change depending on the load (increases with load or discharge of battery). The Vertical Power system measures the current of each device individually, including the field wire, so I check it occasionally.

Does anyone know how much current an LR-3 voltage regulator draws to drive a 40 amp alternator in a 12 VDC system?  Not how big a fuse to use, but how much current does it use?
