I sent my pump to oildyne in about 2001 and it came back with the yellow cap,it vents very well...vents oil down the slots in the threads and all over even with the oil at the low level. My gear has the occasional lock up with large temp swings. The won't go down is overcome with the dump valve, the won't go up is not always overcome with the dump valve.Wish I had the black cap back.

Hey Scott,

I have heard there is a vent in the threads of the yellow cap.  It does appear that there is enough spacing in the threads to allow venting, but I have no fluid leaking anywhere, not even around or near the pump.  I do have the bigger, newer resevoir than the old ones which I know what you're talking about because my manual has a picture of both.  Mine is the newer style pump.
