I liked John Wright's note on high altitude flying.  Here is my personal 2 cents?

Almost every aspect of the sport we love is inheriently dangerous.  High altitude flying is just another dimension.  Once you understand the risks involved, I feel that high altitude flying is perfectly acceptable just as long as all the potential problems areas are covered.

I admit that I enjoy flying at the higher altitudes because of the higher possible speeds and the lack of traffic, and the easier route planning, (i.e. VFR climb to VFR on top with direct routing.)  To attain this, I added a pressurized cabin, a cabin altimeter to keep a positive check on the pressurization, and emergency descent oxygen just in case.  My motto is high, far, fast, but safe.

Anyway, enough rambling, what I really wanted to do is to suggest to those high flyers the possibility of attending a High Altitude seminar at the closest Air Force Base.  A small investment in terms of time and $$$ will bring you a wealth of understanding and a ride in the altitude chamber where you can experience the symtoms of hypoxia and maybe an explosive decompression. Its quite an experience.
