Ron,
Was the seat damage on the vernatherm or the cooler or both...and which
cooler did you get as a replacement?

I had those high oil temps. When I took out the vernatherm and inspected
the seat it looked like it had been cut with a dull tool. I ended up getting
a replacment cooler and vernatherm. Now the temps run at 190 in climb and
180 in cruise. In the fall I have to close the oil cooler door to get it up
to 180.

So would it be correct to say that since we are flying
experimental airplanes and if the oil cooler from the
"G" is interchangeable with the "N", that this would
be a solution?

My brothers Cirrus has the "N" and has no oil temp.
problems and I know some Legacy owners with tighter
cowls, smaller air inlets than the ES that have no
cooling problems.  How would you explain this?

Your temps are not unusual at all in the ES with the
IO550N.  The N has a
bad oil cooler(ineffective).  TCM acknoledges this,
but won't do anything
about it because that particular oil cooler is
certified with that
engine, and they can't change it without
re-certification.  There are
some small changes you can make to at least help the
situation.  I would
suggest you go through the ES list archives.(not
this LML list). This has
been discussed many times before and I'm sure all
the info you are
looking for is there.  The IO550G has the good oil
cooler/vernatherm and
is the same one that's on the TSIO550E I believe.
