The oil used in the strut is Belray 30W fork oil. It changes viscosity with temperature. So keeping the strut cool is important to get the best damping. Of course the IV guys don't have that option. I've wondered how warm the strut gets when it's tucked up inside the cowl on a IV. I agree with Jim, keep the tire pressure low. I keep mine at 32. The Columbia uses a 10 ply nosewheel tire that's inflated the 88 psi. The new Lancair strut is designed very much like the Columbia strut and uses 5606 fluid which isn't susceptible to viscosity breakdown at higher temperatures. It also has significantly more damping. It has bent a couple tow bars.
