Hi Marv and gang,
The pot boiling has reduced to a simmer, so I thought I would toss a scrap into it, just to see it sputter. Re; Comm Antenna's
My IV first flew in Dec 1994. It was with the stickey back, copper foil "Z" inside the right vertical stab. It had excellent range then, and 1300 hours later, has excellent range now. I do have a whip (172 style) (straightened) for my #2 com inside a 3/4" pvc in the fwd edge of the vert stab. I know its not supposed to work, interference and all that, but it does.
I also have a handheld.

My observation is that exterior antennas detract from the Lancair's lines. Why would you install an external antenna in the build process when the difficulties have been reported by a minority of questionable sources. (Haven't you ever heard ATC question someone else's radio, when it sounded fine to you?)    Brents advice to make provisions to add an antenna, later, may be fine, but I wouldn't put too much time or effort into it. Rather, make sure the best antenna wire is used, make sure connector ends are professional, connector in stab is sealed and secure. Check it before closing stab. etc etc.
