I did get a replacement spring from Lancair but no background information. I used it to measure the length, I.D., O.D. and # of coils. To determine the rate of the lancair spring, I need to determine the load on the spring when it is compressed.
Unfortunately, I cant measure the the length of the spring when its compressed because I cant get access to it and the installation plans dont show the depth of the spring mount. Thats why I was hoping someone on the list might have a step that hasnt been installed. They could measure the length of the spring under load, then measure the applied force to compress the spring to the loaded length, and then we can compute the rate and go from there.
BTW, Lee Spring did send me info on two springs with the same dimensions as the Lancair spring. The first had a rate of 16.00 lb/in and the second had a rate of 17.50 lb/in. If I could determine the rate of the Lancair spring, I might be able to pick the stronger spring (maybe).
