I get your point about the curvature.  On that basis I guess my next thought would be to replicate the attachments on my Rockwell 112 TC-A cowling.  Although a bit unwieldy, the whole top cowling (fiberglass) - curves and all - lifted off from 4 latches, again providing great engine compartment access.  Although not a speed match for Lancairs it was good for up to angels 20 and lots of Rocky Mountain turbulence.

John, the latches on the Cheetah and Tiger were, I believe, improved over the Traveler's; part of Lo Presti's "clean-up".
