The answer is yes, you can use Carbinge with Carbinge Keepers for the entire
attachment system for the cowls – no Camlocks or other brand of this type
fastener required.

For the rear part of the top cowling there is some creativity required but
it can be done. I have seen and heard of more than one solution to this
problem, but the best way I’ve come up with is to run one pin across the top
of the cowl/fuselage junction using a Carbinge Keeper and having the allen
head screw inset in a short groove in the cowl. Prior to this, the bottom
cowl is attached to the fuselage with one Carbinge Keeper on each side
starting from the bottom. The Keepers are made long so that when screwed in
they extend vertically past the top of the lower cowl. At bottom cowl
installation, they are inserted to the point the ends are flush with the top
of the lower cowl. The top cowl is then set to place and the two side pins
already placed in the bottom cowl at the rear are inserted further into
short runs of Carbinge on the sides of the top cowl. Next the Horizontal
Carbinge Keeper is inserted across the back top of the cowl and finally the
two horizontal side Keepers are inserted to place and screwed in at the
front of the cowl. I neglected to say that there are some screws required
to hold the front of the cowl together around the propeller spinner.

The most common use is for the horizontal side attachments. If you stick
with that you’ll need Camlocks or some other attachment at the rear. This
will visually break up your paint job and finish work, will provide some
additional drag in flight, and will take more time and effort to
install/uninstall. Also they will tend to work and wear as flight hours
accumulate. When tools are used to install/uninstall them, the paint around
these fittings tends to get dinged up a bit. They attach at specific points
depending on how many you use so that the stress on the joint is isolated to
these attach points whereas Carbinge with Keepers attaches the parts
together all along the joint spreading the loads evenly. You get a more
secure fit – less vibration – lower tendency to work and fret.
