Here is an easy fun way to test the static system.
During the run-up set the altimeter to the nearest 1,000 ft.
Stay in the pattern and make a high speed pass 20 ft. above the
runway. If the altimeter reads set point plus 20 feet the static
system is good.
That's the method I used to verify that there is a problem,
but using the roof line of the tower at about 40 feet as my sightline.
The guys in the tower seem to enjoy it, but I don't want to wear out
my welcome by doing too many passes. Once I get the static system
fairly close, I will want to check it at several different speeds
with and without flaps.
