I don't have first
hand experience with the Lancair sound proofing material, but sound proofing and
weight go hand-in-hand. Heavier/denser materials are better sound
deadeners--just the nature of the physics involved. There's a few
materials that a bit lighter but they also suffer from reduced sound
attenuation. In short, light material and good sound deadening are as
incongruent as a dry martini.

soundproofing
I bought the same soundproofing kit from Lancair
that Bryan did and my interior installer told me not to use it. He
said it was all open cell foam, which will, over time, dry up and slowly
disintigrate into powder. He put in closed cell foam. Between the
cost of the stuff and shipping (it's HEAVY), it was a total waste of a pretty
good chunk of change.
