FYI, I did some internet snooping...
Perhaps the reason I see XM nexrad WX in Ontario
Canada
is the placement of the US Nexrad sites. Ref:
http://www.wunderground.com/radar/map.asp.
Southern Ontario “sticks down” between Michigan
and NY and is thus mostly covered by the US nexrad antenna sites. Perhaps
the same “across the border” view does not seem to occur out west
(or at least not to the same extent). I definitely do get the Canadian
Metars.
Further FYI, the airspace over Canada is definitely
Canadian and to my knowledge requires a flight plan and squak code for international
over-flights (that’s how I always fly over it). However, on several
occasions when I’ve flown direct from Detroit
to Buffalo (over Canada)
at night, I wasn’t handed over to a Canadian controller – just stayed
with Cleveland Center who covers those Canadian sectors.
