We live in Houston because of our work and are not native Texans nor really "fans" of the state overall. I will concede, though, that the Texas Hill Country (as they call it here) where Fredericksburg is located is one of the nicest areas of the state. Many "Texas Lovers" retire to or at least dream of retiring to that area. October is a good date for a central Texas fly in because it will still be summer there... The first cool front almost never makes it through here until right around Halloween. I can see why it would also be considered an attractive location for Lancair's business operations. The central U.S. location is obvious. The quality of life in that area is high because of the natural beauty, low cost of living (also no state income tax like Oregon), and it is close enough to Austin's very appealing cultural and economic center. There's also already an aviation skill base in the area -- the Mooney factory is in Kerrville which is close by. We might want to arrange a tour during the fly in... Valin Thorn Legacy
