A problem with "air" is humidity/impurities and their associated effects ...
oxidizing metals for example.

Pure O2, yes.  Not regular air.  BTW, it doesn't detonate, but pure  O2 and oil will burn.

   I hope your automotive tire pump has a supply of Nitrogen, we're  told that the Oxygen in air could detonate in the oleo.  Also, be  sure that the Schraeder Valve is the high pressure type, the stem is  slightly shorter and usually grey in color.   The normal red valve  will bleed off and not trap pressure in the oleo....
