you pull in the whole previous post.
If say my main alt craps out. I
wouldn't loose power to the bus. The battery should take over and I
would have time to hit the cross-tie. I wouldn't think anything would
reboot?
agreed. but how do you know it's your
alternator that will crap out?
Maybe it's that mouse nest in your avionics fan
that finally fell into the blades and caused it melt down?
or maybe you are elected to be the 1/5000 guys who
actually has a shorted battery?
In any event, if you are at 25,000 feet and you
smell something burnt electrical, I would think you are going to power down
with prejudice and ask questions later.
assuming it's not the alternator, do you really
want to close that cross tie before you figure out what's going on? If you
have a shorted battery and you close it you will take out your standby also
(besides making a worse smell)
