I am sure the laser sighting on our modern fighter jets would only need a minor modification for conversion into bar-code readers. Additionally, if user fees are mandated, towers, ILS approaches and fuel trucks could be equipped with readers and automatically bill the aircraft owner for services. On the plus side, reader equipped runways could automatically open your flight plan on take off and close it on landing.
