I mounted two batteries on the firewall in my 320. They are both 12ah B&C recombinant gas batteries. One is mounted on the engine side and its partner is mounted exactly opposite on the cockpit side (no right rudder pedals). Through bolts hold aluminum angle for support and threaded rod passing through the firewall holds both against the firewall. Together, they are 24 ah and weigh about the same as a standard G-25. A contactor connects them electrically for engine start. Afterword they are separated and one is connected to the main electrical system and the 60 amp alternator. The other is connected to the essential system and the 8 amp B&C alternator running off a govenor pad. Two completely separate and independant yet connectable electrical systems for a very small weight penalty. The same switch that turns the 8 amp alternator on disconnects the two systems so that you can't have any conflict between the two alternators.
