With regard to your question about adding a second nose gear gas strut;
I think this is overkill.  You would have to have 2 simultaneous failures
before you couldn't get the nose gear down.
This mod would also make it extremely difficult to manually push the nose
gear into the up position.  Believe me, you will be doing this.
