I recommend that this be done after hanging the engine. I made a wooden spinner backing plate and attached it with the appropriate spacers to the prop flange. This woooden fixture became the reference point from which the cowling was hung providing an "X", "Y" and "Z" reference for the front center of the cowling. This would work good on any model of Lancair. I reinforced the cowl machine screw attach points by bonding tinnermans onto the cowling.I made a cutting tool that recessed the tinnermans flush with the surface. One bid sould be applied over the tinnermans. When you get it done, the cowl will hold up just fine but it was time consuming to do it right.
