Hi Everyone:
Thanks for all the input on my solenoid question last week.  The bad news is that, after trying all the sources mentioned in the list, I still couldnt find a 12 volt solenoid rated for constant duty, with a 1 inch push-on action.
However, the good news is that the solenoid in a 1984 Trans-Am hood scoop has both a 1 inch push-on action, as well as a spring return when power is removed.  I havent measured the force of the "push-on" action yet but I would estimate the spring return action at about 1 lb force.  The unit weighs 17 ounces and comes with a 2 piece linkage that should adapt to a variety of uses.
