I started my Lancair 360 seven years ago. It has been moved (on the ground) from Colorado to California, to Colorado, to Utah, and again to Colorado. Each move delayed construction for 6 months to 2 years ( something about working in to a new job each time ). I now have it in a hangar and I am beginning to complete the external finish and details. I hope now to fly it in the spring ( I won't be so brave as to tell you which year ).
I have quite a few questions concerning the changes and improvements that have been seen since my parts and pieces came out of the box, and would particularly like to hear some arguments for making some retrofits before it is a finished aircraft.
My engine (with constant speed prop) is mounted on the original engine mount, not the later design that moved the engine forward - I think about four inches. What does that move do to the CG? What are the reasons and advantages to the later design (ignore the %$#@ firewall interference problem - I know all about that one!). It sounds like most people are now not only moving the engine forward, but are moving the hydraulic pump forward from its original position on the back of the rear bulkhead - all of which seems like it would really result in a foward CG position. What am I missing? I would love to move the hydraulic pump so that someone other than a first-grader can get to it.
It would seem that the newer pump with a larger reservoir would just add to the situation?? I have changed to the MKII tail, if that makes any difference to anyone.
What else do I need to consider before I complete this thing? It is pretty near done, but I don't want to finish it without at least considering changes and improvements that have come down the pike.
