Scott,
The leak is from the inside of the strut tube.  Externally the strut is dry except for the top of the nose gear fork when it is removed.

I believe you are talking about a leak from around the two drilled bolts safety wired together at the front of the leg.  One thing you could do is cut the safety wire and see if the  bolts can be tightened (not overtighten).  I did solve a leak in that area by tightening slightly more than one face and re-safety wiring.
 
Note that there are sealing washers (o-rings) relative to these bolts and they can be ordered from Aero Crafters.
