In an effort to understand the costs of building and owning this aircraft, I have put together a fairly sophisticated Excel spreadsheet which calculates the Total Cost of Ownership for a Lancair (Legacy). Access this spreadsheet from: http://www.olsusa.com/Users/Mkaye/maillist.html Go to "News", and then hit "Coster". Download and unzip the file. This takes many inputs (options available from Lancair, engine cost, paint, loan term and rate, hangar, number of partners, fuel cost, etc.) and outputs build cost, annual cost, average total cost per flight hour (based on 10 years of flying), and other outputs, both tabular and graphical. I have found this useful for running different scenarios for options, financing, and number of partners. My goal has been to have as thorough a financial understanding of this project (for all involved) before we get started. I have made this available to the list for two reasons. First, I think other builders / potential builders might benefit. Several builders I have spoken with have a budget which may be unrealistic when they begin an aircraft project. Second, I would like for some experienced builders to take a look at my numbers and give me some feedback as to how realistic these numbers may or may not be. Thanks to those who have already responded. I would also hope other people might come up with some ways to improve the spreadsheet and/or customize it for their own use. Am I on target? Please let me know your thoughts! Thanks. *************************************************************************** Noah P.
