Not a very high tech question considering most of you spent MORE than 2
days installing your main gear: ES builders that have installed your
backing plates for the main gear receptacle -- Since many different length
bolts are required, and Lancair only suppllies 2 of the HL21PB12 type, I'm
guessing I can accomplish the proper 'net' length by adding extra washers
to 'too long' bolts and using shorter profile lock nuts of the AN364-XXX
type for the 'too short' bolts. (These bolts are under shear force -and I
presume not much tension.)
As a more general followup - With these and all nylon locknuts, how many
threads need to show after torquing? There are only 2 -2 1/2 on these when
these are bottomed out. I've found this to be kind of a pain in several
applications where I seem to need an intermediate length bolt. I'd gladly
give up one or two pounds overall to have bolts with more than a sixteenth
more thread than nut! Or am I missing something?
