I forwarded the posts concerning the Lightspeed Engineering CDI to Klaus
Savier (never met him, but I also crawl the Berkut site where I first
became aware of his ignition system).  Here is his response:

Dear Kurt,

Thanks for forwarding the messages from the Lancair news.

I used a MSD-MC1 amplifier from 1987 until 1995 in the Ignition system.
This is different from the one used in race cars. It is not only a two
channel (dual) multiple spark amp, but also designed for up to 15000 rpm.
MC stands for motorcycle.

If you look at the specs of the automotive versions such as the MSD-5,
MSD-6 A/T their price varies with their RPM capability! Invariably what
happens is that the hot rod builder buys the cheapest one and then over
revs it or misshifts until it fails. The MSD MC1 and later MC2  I used, had
some failures but statistically it is still an order of magnitude better
than the magnetos. The reason I strived for and produced my own ignition
processor/CDI amplifier combination as of 1996, is for lighter weight,
repairability, performance, reliability and eventual certifiability. The
electronic design, by the way, was done by a Lancair pilot/ builder: Paul
Lipps. Ken Johnson is flying this newer Plasma CDI. It performs noticeably
better than the MSD version, both in power and reliability.
If you can post this for me, I would appreciate this.

Thanks again,
Klaus Savier
