Subject: Lance Air 12/16/06
This was the Alert 2 that we had at the beginning of our last shift. This is
a pressurized (you can tell by the two handles on the door) turbine
experimental Lancair that left Redmond and was flying over Lakeview at about
23,000 ft with 4psi in the cabin when the left window blew out. The temp in
Redmond was in the teens that morning so it was probably quite a bit colder at
his altitude. He said the heater wasn’t working that morning! He was able to
put on oxygen and drop to a lower altitude pretty quickly in order to make the
cold trip back to Redmond. Notice the approximately six piece of Plexiglas
that stuck in the wing and penetrated the fuel cell. He landed without
incident!
