I had to configure a C-421 Golden Eagle for the Thiokol Corp. Thiokol is a large company. They were the first synthetic rubber manufacturer in the US just before WW II started (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Thiokol). I knew that cost was of little concern. I configured the aircraft with AC, DeIce, Radar and everything else that I could think of. I don't think that I put on as much as Kevin but still a lot of equipment. When I finished the configuration and did the weight and balance, I found out that I only had about 0 lbs of carrying capacity after the plane was loaded with fuel and pilot. I had to start over drop much of the equipment, go with an OEM AC and configure the aircraft to fly the intended mission safely and not take the house with us. Kevin, You really do need to step back and reevaluate your aircraft configuration. I use my Garmin 396 as a backup to my flight instruments and internal GPS. I also have a handheld Nav/Com with headset jack for communications. I carry spare batteries (AA & 9 V) for my backup handhelds. I use magnetos for backup engine electricity. All of my backup equipment weighs in at a total of 2 lbs. Of course, I carry 20 more lbs of tools and tires. I am carrying 10s of lbs of backup. Your current plan is to carry 100s of lbs of backup gear. You are simply going to be to heavy to be considered safe. If you want a fast, economical aircraft, the Legacy is the plane. If you want a safe, comfortable aircraft, consider a C-340 or B-258. Sincerely, Lorn > Posted for "Alan K. Adamson" : > > Kevin, > I just connected the dots... > Can I poke for a minute?
