The EGT probes are inserted into the exhaust pipe via a small drilled hole and held in place with the screw clamp. There is no requirement for any gasket or washer. I have changed several EGT probes and both TIT probes that have worn out over time due to use in the hot exhaust stream. They last about 500-700 hours TT. The CHT probes screw into the bottom of the cylinder via special fitting.
